Executive Director, The Village Project, Inc.
The mission of The Village Project, Inc. is to provide therapeutic and educational services for historically underserved populations in Monterey County, California, with a primary focus on serving the African American community. The Village Project, Inc. pursues its mission to help strengthen individuals, families and the community in general through the provision and delivery of culturally competent and culturally specific professional mental health and family preservation services. These services include individual, group and family therapy, educational support, cultural enrichment programs and parenting education classes.
The Executive Director serves as The Village Project, Inc. chief professional officer and is responsible for the leadership, management, and growth of the organization.
Salary Range: $85,000 - $102,000 per year (5% per step merit increase annually for 5 steps)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Internal Management

The Executive Director is required to remain fully conversant with regard to the Village Project’s history and mission and must remain up-to-date on the goals, operations, and effectiveness of the agency’s clinical and educational support programs. To that end the Executive Director will also maintain ongoing communication with the Clinical Director to remain abreast of the functionality of the clinical program, its outcomes, and prevailing challenges.
The Executive Director is responsible for the hiring, managing, supervising, and the evaluation of all administrative support personnel including: Office Manager, Bookkeeper, Administrative Assistant, Volunteer Coordinator, program staff, and Site Supervisor (for the afterschool program) and potentially others.
Note: The Clinical Director will manage and supervise the training of licensed therapists, case managers, clinical interns, and clinical staff.
With assistance from the Clinical Director, the Executive Director will assemble and co-lead the team that negotiates mental health contracts with Monterey County Behavioral Health and the California Department of Public Health.
The Executive Director will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Village Project. This includes setting and implementing goals for all nonclinical programs in such a way that ensures the mission of the agency is carried out and reflected in all daily activities.
The Executive Director will execute the organization’s vision and strategic operating plans in a way that ensures the organization’s overall success.
The Executive Director will identify fundraising sources and write grants.
The Executive Director will develop and manage annual budgets and financial procedures for TVPI.
Under the direction of the Board of Directors the Executive Director will implement TVPI policies, procedures and protocols.
The Executive Director will monitor and approve the organization’s program services and assure achievement of its mission and goals.
External Representative
Leverage TVPI’s vision, programs and constituencies to attract significant funding from donors, grants, foundations, and endowments.
Develop and implement marketing strategies and community awareness strategies in order to keep the community broadly aware of how the agency is functioning, the work being carried out by its programs and services and their effectiveness.
Organize annual special events to engage with the local community, such as open houses, and fundraising activities such as luncheons, and charity/donor events.
Oversee continued website development to ensure it is up-to-date, consumer friendly, and is a quality information source that reflects the agency vision and its programs.
Represent The Village Project in Interviews: TV, Print, and other media.
Prepare Press Statements & Releases.
Attend relevant business and professional association meetings e.g. Chamber of Commerce.
Maintain regular contact with Monterey County Behavioral Health, as spokesperson and advocate for The Village Project and its clients’ interests.
Maintain open communication with County Department of Social Service & Community Action Commission to facilitate quarterly reporting requirements and to apply for Community block grants.
Travel to Sacramento to attend Legislative meetings as needed.
Attend meetings of the Racial & Ethnic Mental Health Disparities Coalition (REMHDCO), about six times per year.
Engage leaders at all levels of government and the community.
Board Relationship
Partner with Board of Directors to develop and implement a funding plan to secure sufficient funding and assure financial resources for all TVPI programs.
Develop agency business plans and provide assistance to the Board in developing strategic plans.
Maintain positive relations with the Board Chair, in particular, and Board members in general.
Meet regularly with Board Chair to develop agendas for Board meetings.
Make periodic reports to the Board of Directors regarding new developments for the agency.
Serve as ex-officio member of all Board committees.
Provide staff support to the Board of Directors and serve as Clerk to the Board.
The Executive Director is evaluated annually by the Board of Directors.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Business Administration/Management from an accredited college or university and/or equivalent experience.
Master’s Degree in Business Administration/Management, or related field, a plus.
At least 3 years of effective senior level management or organizational leadership experience with a non-profit agency. Must also have experience building organization’s vision and executing strategic plans.
Proven effectiveness in developing strong positive relationships between an agency and the diverse ethnicities and cultural groups.
Proven success in securing major funding and ongoing funding sources for nonprofit agencies.
Experience in managing annual budgets and developing financial procedures and business plans for nonprofit agencies.
Prior experience working effectively with a Board of Directors.
Possess excellent public speaking and writing skills.
No criminal convictions of child abuse, violent crimes or misappropriation or theft of money.
Proven experience in establishing relationships and partnerships in the public and private sectors.
Moderate travel required.
Intermediate skills with spreadsheets, word processing, and the internet.
